Imagine, if you can, a world where you can't safety meet with other people, and where a computer screen is your only tenuous connection to the outside world.

This is a short sort-of-romance set against a sort-of-horror backdrop - it's not really smut though it does get rather NSFW in places.

Content Warnings

-- Sexual talk (sometimes censored, but it doesn't take much working out)

-- The motivations of both participants are opaque; they might be lying or manipulative.

-- Implied voyeurism

-- Alcohol use

(Please help me improve this section, if you think I missed something please let me know, it's quite difficult to content warn).

Most of the terminal style effects are variations on the techniques set out here so do take a look if you want to do something similar.

The background ambience is a bodged around with version of NASA's recording of Saturn's radio signals, available here. I'm not actually clear on whether I'm allowed to re-use it like that, but if not NASA can DM me, and I can tell them about my "transbian orbital commune" idea.

Thanks, as ever, to the playtesters - you made it much better, thank you.

omg I love it and it was so good that I can't stop thinking about it even after a day of playing it for the first time. I really feel for the two (Topaz was adorable), and it reminded me a bit of classic SCP Interview Logs as well. It'll remain on my mind for a long time for sure so thank you so much for your hard work!

[ SPOILERS ] feat. Topaz/MC copium 🗿

Their connection was too strong that they really made the thing go HOLUP and yeet outta there 💀 I'll just snort some copium and imagine that Topaz actually managed to survive, finally free to connect with someone... that certain someone. They can't get it out of their mind and personally sought out MC after the world recovered. And that they were able to have their long-awaited date in the park around Autumn, calling each other by their real names. With Topaz all flustered (of course) with the sweet affection and compliments that MC would give to them, unconditionally and lovingly! Another bit would be their first kiss turning into a "Close your eyes, [Topaz real name]." and them anticipating that 'hot' e-kiss they did before (lol), cupping their chin and all that but then MC would do a forehead kiss first and Topaz be like, "Wha You're really such a nerd!" and shyly turns away to touch their forehead, blushing 😂😭

a amazing story, that i honestly cant stop thinking about.... man i love this

Hey... no lie. I think you should submit a version of this to Science fiction mags. This is a damn good story (even without the interactivity).

mAybe we REallY cOUld find An intelliGent Uniue waY to speak
Or Really A Good Indeed Readable Language
We could also keep it simple and try to use dots for p.u.s.s.y or d.i.c.k.
Or we could be like “do you have a pencil or a kitty?”.

Crying. This shit was so good. Lmao

(+4)

Oh wow this broke me, did not expect that, wish there were more things like this.

(+4)

this is the good shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(+8)

good story kjsdnkknd. the archivist’s note at the end made me cry.

(+6)

Woah was this an experience! At first I was a bit confused what to do and I can imagine the MC being confused as well, being thrust into a place where they don't know and all. And as I chatted with Topaz at first I was a bit hesitant but the more we chatted the more I got entertained and/or flustered. But to see Topaz clearly longing for a connection with people broke me and with the limited options we had I tried my best to reach out to them, especially during the date and cuddle sequence. The Hive notes confused me because I thought MC was part of the Hive but I reread the description and the notes and understood better lol. Also the Archivist Note, it made me feel real melancholic, such a great read! I'm also siding with the Archivist hoping that MC and Topaz were able to meet and go on that long awaited date.

this game was stupid fun to play highly highly recommend

(+4)

this one was very on point , with the pandemic happening rn & all . very bittersweet feeling that we cant meet Topaz but like the Archivist hopes , I hope both were happy in the end.

(+2)

man this is a really good game! not at all what i was expecting, in a positive way. nicely done :-]

(+5)

Awwwwww, I really like the story. The archivists note nearly made me cry for some reason. :)

(+5)(-1)

It's a short game but it left me a bittersweet feeling after reading the Archivist's note. I also like to imagine that both of them went to meet each other, in a park, in the autumn.

Anyways! You did a great job, it's a simple game and enough to make you feel many emotions :)

(+3)

This is really good! I really like the stable horror of the hive and the all consuming loneliness this leaves in my heart as I consider this global pandemic. I really like Topaz and their clear want to have some human connection plus their frustrations. 10/10

(+4)

aww. this is warm

intriguing and after reading it the feeling lingers

made my day

honestly this game made me rly happy.. i think it’s so good that people always try to connect even when it’s the hardest thing in the world..

(+10)

this was a really cool experience! your writing is excellent. as another commenter said, def hits different during COVID...

one note: at one point it says STRICY when I think it should be STRICT :)

(+7)

this game... I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. It hit hard, especially just getting out of COVID lockdown. it's not the same ofc, but the sense of isolation, while simultaneously knowing you're not alone... But it also not being enough. This was really well done, short, funny at times, and also poignant.

(+2)

This game is great, it made me feel things I haven't in quite a long time. Hit really hard in places, too.

(+1)

Thank you!

(+2)
